Hungary 1741-KB thaler Dav-1125B
The first specimen was lot 42058 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Taler, 1741-KB. Kremnica Mint. Maria Theresia. NGC AU-53. Variety with MA and HUN: BO in obverse legend. From the Augustana Collection." Hungary stood by Maria Theresia during the War of the Austrian Succession, where Frederick the Great of Prussia invaded and annexed Silesia. The second specimen was lot 4839 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,513 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Reichstaler 1741 KB, Kremnitz. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, thaler of 1741, Kremnitz mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1741-43 with three variants in the obverse legend: KM 328.1/Dav-1125 ("MAR. THERESIA • D:G: REG. HUNG. BOH:"), KM 328.2/Dav-1125A ("MAR • THERESIA • D: G: REG: HUNG: BO"), KM 328.3/Dav-1125B ("MA • THERESIA • D: G: REG: HUN: BO").
Recorded mintage: 620,000 (including Dav-1125A).
Specification: 28.82 g, 0.875 fine silver, 40.5 mm diameter, lettered edge, the second specimen 28,69 g.
