Sincona sale 23, lot 3284

This specimen was lot 3284 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$314 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UNGARN, Karl III. 1711-1740 Taler 1738. Kremnitz. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hungary, Charles III (1711-40), thaler of 1738, Kremnitz mint, extremely fine.)"

This type, struck 1736-40 in several varieties, is common. It is the final type struck for Karl VI, who was succeeded by his daughter Maria Theresia in 1740.
