Sincona sale 20, lot 4273

This specimen was lot 4273 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 220 (about US$282 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Taler 1599. Kremnitz. Sehr schön. (very fine.)" The Hapsburg ruler styled himself king of Hungary but actually ruled only a slice near the Austrian border, the remainder being divided between the Ottoman Turks and the prince of Transylvania. Davenport lists this type for 1578-1600 as Dav-8066 and 1601-08 as Dav-3013.
