This specimen was lot 71037 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Denar, 1513-KG. Vladislaus II (1490-1516). PCGS AU-55. Good strike, well centered with full legends and date. Highly lustrous and attractive." The denar, descended from the Roman denarius, was a popular denomination in eastern Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Four denars made a groschen. This type was struck 1503-18 with numerous mintmarks (KB, Kh, KH, KG, MM, NB, nA, nE) which the SCWC does not show at all. Wladislaus was also king of Bohemia and Croatia. Wladislaus' successor Lajos II was killed in 1526 fighting the Turks at Mohacs, ending Hungarian independence.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, probably debased, 0.33-0.49 g.
