Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 47007
SB825-47007r.jpg

This specimen was lot 47007 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Denar, 1509-KG. Ferdinand I. PCGS MS-65." This type was struck 1503-18 with numerous mintmarks (KB, Kh, KH, KG, MM, NB, nA, nE) which the SCWC does not show at all. Piedforts exist but are much thicker (c. 5.18 g). We presume the auctioneer would have mentioned it if this were a piedfort. Wladislaus (or László) was also king of Bohemia and Croatia. Wladislaus' successor Lajos II was killed in 1526 fighting the Turks at Mohacs, ending Hungarian independence.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.55 g, silver, 15-16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM MB27, Huszar-811.
