This specimen was lot 72509 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Denar, 1507-KH. Wladislaw II. NGC AU-55. Well-struck and nicely centered on the obverse." The denar, descended from the Roman denarius, was a popular denomination in eastern Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Four denars made a groschen. This type was struck 1503-18 with numerous mintmarks (KB, Kh, KH, KG, MM, NB, nA, nE) which the SCWC does not show at all. Wladislaus was also king of Bohemia and Croatia. Wladislaus' successor Lajos II was killed in 1526 fighting the Turks at Mohacs, ending Hungarian independence.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.55 g, silver or billon, this specimen 0.55 g.
