This specimen was lot 51020 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. 50 Cents, 1891. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Quite pleasing and wholesome, this minor presents some darker notes near the extremes of the peripheries and retains some solid brilliance." This type was struck at the London mint 1890-94 (shown here) and at Heaton 1891-92.
Recorded mintage: 150,000 plus proofs.
