Honduras 1895 10 centavos
The first specimen was lot 1858 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $5,445. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS, Republic. 1840-pres. AR 10 Centavos. Tegucicalpa mint. Dated 1895/89. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem toned uncirculated mule. Only one coin of this type ever graded. Purchased from Don Gilmore, June 1971." The second and third specimens were part of lot 33962 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), which sold for $129.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic Minor Denominations Lot, Tegucigalpa mint. An 8-coin group as follows: KM48 5 Centavos 1884, KM54 (formerly Y20) 5 Centavos 1886 and 1896, KM35 10 Centavos 1871, KM49 10 Centavos 1884, 1893 and 1895 and KM55 mule 10 Centavos 1895. Av. VG-Fine as usually seen in these issues. A good study group for the specialist with the usual myriad overdates and repunched legends." This type was issued 1884-1900 in a multitude of varieties, overdates, mulings and all the things that make Honduran numismatics fascinating and frustrating. The SCWC lists 1895/85, 1895/86, 1895/71 and 1895/1 and others doubtless exist.
