This specimen was lot 1161 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS, Tegucigalpa, gold 1 peso, 1871, mule with Liberty head obverse, rare, NGC AU details / cleaned, "top pop." Rare and curious one-year muling (unlisted in Friedberg) showing the ensuing Liberty head obverse with the previous reverse arms design (note KM and NGC refer to these sides oppositely), typically crude and light in color yet with full rims and interior details, also in top grade as tied with one other for finest in the NGC census." Numista comments, "Despite displaying a 1871 date, it is currently unknown when these coins were minted."
