This specimen was lot 1396 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "HONDURAS. 5 Centavos, 1871. NGC EF-40. RARE date. Mintage of only 2,056 pieces." The type was struck in 1871 only, accompanied by similar ten, twenty-five, fifty centavos and one pesos. Only the twenty-five and fifty centavos were made in production quantities. Honduran coinage was locally made under very primitive conditions until the reform of 1931 which introduced the lempira.

Recorded mintage: 2,056 plus proofs made in Philadelphia.
