Honduras (18)23-P Y real KM-8.1
Upon separating from the Empire of Mexico in 1823, Honduras joined the Central American Republic (1823-1839). This specimen was lot 41461 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "NICARAGUA. Cob Real, 1823. Leon Mint. NGC AU-55. Variety with "pine tree style" pillars. A delightful rendition of this imitative local currency, the present piece displays hardly any evidence of handling, offering a fairly well centered strike that allows for portions of the date observed upon both sides. Ex: Richard Stuart Collection." We will side with the SCWC and file this under Honduras, which issued this provisional coinage in half, one and two reales denominations 1823-24.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 3.47 g.
