Upon separating from the Empire of Mexico in 1823, Honduras joined the Central American Republic (1823-1839). The earliest independent coinage was of a provisional nature, lasting two years. The specimen shown was lot 1393 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. Provisional Government. 1/2 Real, 1824. KM-7 (for type). Bold four digit date. Toned. EXTREMELY FINE."
