Holland 1780 1/2 ducaton
This specimen was lot 34032 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Holland. Provincial 1/2 Ducaton (Silver Rider) 1780 UNC Details (Obverse Cleaned) NGC, A blast white specimen, quite lustrous on the reverse with scattered earthen tones in the lower crevices. The devices, though boldly struck, admit some weakness, a trait easily overlooked in light of the conditional scarcity of this type. From the Coenen Collection." The half ducaton from this province has a low catalog value but is seldom seen. This is the first one we have posted on this site. It is listed for 1765-77, 1780 and 1788-92 with many overdates for 1780.
