Holland 1753 duit

Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75402

This specimen was lot 75402 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $360. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Holland. Duit, 1753. NGC MS-65. A bright white offering with extraordinary mint brilliance. Not a rare type in lower grades but very SCARCE this choice." This type, intended to be a copper coin, was struck in silver 1702, 1710, 1717, 1739-63 and in gold 1702, 1717-23, 1739-52 and 1759. The gold strikes were struck to the module of a double ducat. Altho copper duits were struck until 1780, none were made in 1753.
