Holland 1749 7 gulden
This specimen was lot 1551 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,177 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, HOLLAND, Provincie, AV 7 gulden (halve gouden rijder), 1749. Vz/ Ridder n.r. met zwaard boven gekroond provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen. Zeldzaam Krasjes in het veld. Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Holland, gold seven gulden (half golden rider) of 1749. Obverse: mounted knight charges right with sword over the provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality. Scarce in this quality, Extremely Fine.)"
This type is recorded for 1749-51, 1760-63 only and is not common. It is often called a "gold half rider".
