This specimen was lot 894 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €280 (about US$377 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HESSEN, HESSEN-KASSEL, SEIT 1803 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Wilhelm II. und Friedrich Wilhelm, 1832-1847. 1/6 Taler 1847. R Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Hesse-Cassel, William II and Frederick William, 1832-47, one-sixth thaler of 1847. Scarce, about uncirculated.)"

The electors of Hesse-Cassel issued this denomination in various types 1803-56; this type of 1845-47 is rather scarce. Most German minors are rarely available in nice condition in the United States and are disdained by American collectors.

Recorded mintage: 103,000.

Specification: 5.32 g, 0.500 fine silver.

Catalog reference: AKS 48; J. 42, KM 609.
