This specimen was lot 3784 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$560 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Helvetische Republik. Batzen 1800 B, Bern. Mit der Wertzahl 10 (Rappen) auf der Vorderseite. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, Helvetic Confederation, batzen of 1800, Bern mint, with "10 rappen" on the obverse. Good extremely fine.)"
The Helvetian Republic was a puppet state set up by the French in 1798 on the remnants of the old Swiss Confederation. It collapsed in 1803 under religious and class conflict and Napoleon reorganized it as the Swiss confederation, restoring the liberties of the old cantons. Most of its issues are rare and expensive. Both Basel and Solothurn minted this type, altho some examples lack the mintmark.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon or silver, this specimen 2.57 g.
