Hannover 1837-A thaler Dav-664
This specimen was part of lot 1391 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), which sold for 300 CHF (about US$377 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hannover, ab 1814 Königreich, Wilhelm IV. 1830-1837 Taler 1834. Taler 1835. Taler 1835 (Feinsilber). Taler 1837 (Feinsilber). Kahnt 219, 220, 222, 221. Sehr schön und sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hannover, William IV (1830-37), thalers of 1834, 1835 (2), 1837. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type of 1835-37 is the last issued under William IV, king of England. On his death, his niece Victoria ascended the throne of England and Hannover passed to the king's brother Ernest August, severing a connection begun in 1714. This date is common.
