Künker Auction 441, lot 4201

This specimen was lot 4201 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, AB 1815 KÖNIGREICH HANNOVER Wilhelm IV., 1830-1837. 2/3 Taler 1834, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Grube Bergwerks-Wohlfahrt. Feinsilbergulden nach Leipziger Fuß. Büste r.//Sechs Zeilen Schrift. Von größter Seltenheit. Feine Patina, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hannover, William IV, 1830-37, two-thirds thaler of 1834, Clausthal mint, for the mines. Struck to the Leipzig standard. Extremely rare, fine patina, hairlines, extremely fine.)"

Several two-thirds thalers or gulden were struck in Hannover in Hannover, including KM 161.1, KM 161.2, KM 162 and KM 163 (shown here). This one, struck for the mines, is very rare. Altho valued at two-thirds thaler, it weighs only half a convention thaler. On William's death in 1837, Hannover passed to his brother Ernest August while his niece Victoria mounted the throne of Britain.
