Sedwick sale 27, lot 1028

This specimen was lot 1028 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $214.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hannover (German States), taler, William IV, 1834-B. AU with very light rainbow toning (somewhat striated) over muted luster, minimal marks. Note this is the same William IV who was King of Great Britain. Purchased from a Ludwig Grabow fixed price list in July 1956, lot #319, with collector's envelope." The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866. King William IV (1830-37) is better known as William IV of England. After his death in 1837, England passed to Victoria and Hannover passed to a cadet branch in the male line. This type, struck 1834 only, is fairly scarce.
