Hannover 1823-C 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 99 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €280 (about US$395 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - ⅔ Thaler 1823, Silver, GEORG IV 1820-1830, HANNOVER KGR Clausthal mint. Laureate head left. Rev. denomination. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS MS61." The old electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg was annexed by Napoleon in 1807. At the Congress of Vienna, it was restored as the kingdom of Hannover and ruled by the British kings until 1837. This type was struck 1822-29 for king George IV. It is not recorded whether George IV ever set foot in his German domain.
