Hannover 1814-TW 5 thaler Fr-619
This specimen was lot 34043 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Hannover. George III of England gold 5 Taler 1814-TW XF Details (Cleaned) NGC. Softly aurous and still retaining a considerable glint to legends, the present offering presents a great opportunity to obtain a more affordable example of this scarce and highly-coveted type. From the Collection of a Berkshire Gentleman." This type was issued 1813-15 and is the first of the denomination after the kingdom was restored. Elector George III was also king George III of England. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866. Another gold five thaler with a leaping stallion was struck in 1814.
