Hannover 1793-PLM 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 5733 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €75 (about US$104 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
(Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, one sixth thaler of 1793, Clausthal mint, with the date in the obverse legend. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck for George III 1793-1800 and is common. Many different types of this denomination exist, with the wild man (KM 348, 386, 395, 401), with the king's bust (KM 370, 382, 389, 400, 404, 415) or with St. Andrew holding his cross (KM 298, 342, 419). This, however, seems to be the only design used in 1793. In 1793, the state was still technically the electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg but everybody called it Hannover, a situation formalized when it was reconstituted the kingdom of Hannover in 1815.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 3,22 g.
