This specimen was lot 46041 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 1/6 Taler, 1784. Clausthal Mint. George III. NGC AU-58." This type was struck 1783-84 and is rather scarce. This denomination was also struck with a wild man reverse (KM 348). Hannover, linked to the British crown 1714-1837, embroiled England in several continental conflicts the British establishment would rather have avoided. When this denomination was introduced, it was worth one sixth thaler but by the reign of George III, it had slipped to one-ninth thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-382; Welter-2834.
