Hannover 1753-IBH 2/3 thaler KM-286
This specimen was lot 74558 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1753-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. Nearly as struck in terms of detail, with remnants of original luster in the recessed areas. We note the presence of some old cleaning over both faces, for completeness. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The SCWC records three different gulden for 1753: KM 277 (leaping stallion reverse), KM 286 (wild man, shown here) and KM 290 (leaping stallion). This one was struck 1743-60 and is by far the most common.
