Hannover 1753-IBH 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 74567 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 6 Mariengroschen (1/6 Taler), 1753-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. An extremely attractive example that delights in all aspects. A complete and boldly-struck rim frames the design elements and inscriptions. Barely perceptible wear is countered by soft, satiny argent surfaces with champagne highlights and hints of cerulean on the reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1727-60 and is common. Another 1/6 thaler, KM 298 with St. Andrew on the reverse, was struck in 1753.
