Hannover 1721-C 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 73590 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1721-C. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS Genuine--Repaired, AU Details. Not listed in KM for this date. An attractive white argent example with lovely champagne toning in the protected areas. Light wear with some weakness noted in the center of the reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Includes ticket from Kuenker." Three different gulden are listed for 1721: KM 100 (1721-HCB, bust obverse, scarce), KM 112.1 (struck 1716-21, shown here) and KM 148 (1721-HCB, leaping stallion). This coin is catalogued as ⅔ thaler as no "24" is marked on the coin.
