This specimen was lot 73571 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1708-RB. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Ludwig (future George I of Great Britain). PCGS AU-53. This coin displays dove gray surfaces with hints of cobalt in the protected areas near the peripheries. The charming Wild Man is presented in a very wide stance as if ready to engage any challenger. Well-struck with light wear; some minor shadowing on the reverse from the Wild Man figure is noted. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Includes ticket from Kuenker." This type was struck 1700-11 and is somewhat scarce (the 1700 is catalogued as Dav-6653). Other thalers for 1708 include Dav-2058 (leaping stallion) and Dav-2062 (St. Andrew reverse), both priced lower.
