"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, HAMBURG Freie und Hansestadt. 2 Mark 1911. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung PR 66 (55959199). Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, polierte Platte. Graded PCGS PR-66, cabinet example, superb patina, proof.)"

Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. Hamburg, on the North Sea, was one of three imperial free cities permitted a continued existence under the Empire of 1871; Bremen and Lübeck were the others. This type is common and was struck 1892-93, 1896-1914. The Hamburg mint is still in operation, striking coins for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Recorded mintage: 204,250 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 612, J. 63.
