Guinea 1970 5000 francs Fr-9
This specimen was lot 34465 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guinea: Republic gold Proof 5000 Francs 1970 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. An attractive golden jewel with a limited mintage of only 4,000 pieces. Bright, with an intense cameo quality." Like many African countries, Guinea has issued coins for circulation only sporadically; most of the listings in the SCWC are for NCLT's. This gold 5000 francs honoring an Egyptian pharoah was accompanied by a silver 500 francs (KM 23). Guinea switched to cylis in 1971 and back to francs in 1985. She has also spent time on the CFA franc.
