Guatemala 1818-NG M 1/2 real
This specimen was lot 75497 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $89. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 1/2 Real, 1818-NG M. Nueva Guatemala Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS AU-58. From the Richard August Collection." This type was dated 1808 and 1811-21. Assayer "M," for Manuel Eusebio Sanchez, is recorded for 1785-1836. Harris[2] notes that this type is about as abundant as the one, two, or four reales issued at the same time. The 1821 is abundant (most were likely struck after independence), the later dates are somewhat available and the backdated 1808 is rare.
