This specimen was lot 25059 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1817-M, XF45 NGC, well-struck features with old-time rose gold patina, the surfaces display light contact marks. Very rare type." There is a similar eight reales. The SCWC lists three dates for the type, all very rare: 1808, 1811 and 1817.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
