Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 390

This specimen was lot 390 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €15,800 (about US$20,851 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1808. Fernando VII. Guatemala. M. 2 escudos. Muy bella. Brillo original. Rarísima. Sólo hemos tenido este ejemplar. S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Ferdinand VII, two escudos of 1808, Nueva Guatemala mint. Very handsome, original luster, rare, we know of only this example. About uncirculated.)"

The type was struck 1808, 1811 and 1817 with all dates recorded as rare in the SCWC. The 1808 issue was almost certainly struck at a later date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW. This specimen 6,76 g.
