Jean Elsen sale 156, lot 1676

This specimen was lot 1676 in Jean Elsen sale 156 (Brussels, September 2023), where it sold for €180 (about US$231 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GRANDE-BRETAGNE, Elisabeth II (1952-2022), AV quart de souverain, 2017. 200e anniversaire du souverain. Flan poli. (kingdom of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, gold quarter sovereign of 2017, on the bicentennial of the sovereign. Proof.)"

In the days when the sovereign actually circulated, half sovereigns were struck but quarter sovereigns never got past the pattern stage. Quarter sovereigns with the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the queen (KM 1117) are noted for 2009-11 but this bust, the last used before Elizabeth died, has not been added to the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.00 g, 0.917 fine gold, 13.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-588, KM unlisted.
