Sincona sale 86, lot 1842

This specimen was lot 1842 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,279 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof Sovereign 2018, Royal Mint Llantrisant. Piédfort. Fifth bust. Privy mark "65". Only 2,750 pieces struck. NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO. With original box."

The regular weight sovereign was struck with this bust 2015-21. The Royal Mint licensed a private mint in India to strike sovereigns with an "I" mintmark (S-SC9A). The mintage figures, taken from Numista, are uncertain.

Recorded mintage: 13,199 in regular weight plus 485 struck with plain edge for prince George's birthday; 2,750 struck, 1,930 sold of the pieforts.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22.05 mm diameter, this specimen 15.97 g.
