This specimen was lot 44751 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pounds, 2013. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. Golden Guinea Anniversary. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." This NCLT does not commemorate the introduction of the guinea, which occurred during the reign of Charles II, but the introduction of the spade guinea during the Napoleonic Wars. The guinea was superseded by the sovereign in 1816 but continued to be used for the pricing of luxury articles with snob appeal. Other commemoratives issued in this denomination include KM 994, 1239, 1240.

Recorded mintage: unknown in copper-nickel plus 44,000 proofs plus 2,013 in silver and a few in gold.

Specification: 12 g, bimetallic (copper-nickel/nickel-brass), 28.4 mm diameter; 0.925 fine silver; 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
