This specimen was lot 2940 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $217.37. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Halfcrown, 1914 NGC MS64. George V. Obverse portrait of king by Mackennal. Reverse, shield of arms. An uncirculated coin with a deep rich multi-hued tone. Not easy to find now in the loftiest grades. NGC graded MS-64." The silver half crown (2½ shillings) was struck in this fineness until 1920, when it was debased to 0.500 fine. The SCWC notes that the large mintages of World War One were accompanied by weak strikes.
