Great Britain 1913 half crown
This specimen was lot 34380 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George V 1/2 Crown 1913 MS66 NGC. The fact that this is the key date in the series is made yet more impressive by a delightful state of preservation, the surfaces of the piece bathed in lime-green color with local hints of maroon and gold. Currently the finest certified at NGC. From the Feeling Good Collection." The silver half crown (2½ shillings) was struck in this fineness until 1920, when it was debased to 0.500 fine. The SCWC notes that the large mintages of World War One were accompanied by weak strikes. The 1913 is a better date but not the key.
Recorded mintage: 4,090,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 14.14 g, 0.925 fine silver, 32.3 mm diameter.
