Great Britain 1891 half penny
This specimen was lot 72135 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1891. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-66 Brown Gold Shield. When rotated, the satiny luster has an alluring blue-green iridescence. The surfaces, chocolate brown in color, are consistent and glossy, yielding the perfection that is this plus Gem. Truly an exceptional piece that is well deserving of its lofty grade." This type was struck 1874-94 in large numbers and is common tho some dates are rare in nice condition.
