Great Britain 1891 1/2 sovereign
This specimen was lot 30112 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria gold "Jubilee Head" 1/2 Sovereign 1891 MS63 PCGS. Low shield variety. Admitting only minute wisps and marks to obverse fields that carry an abundance of mint bloom. From the Ezen Collection." This specimen is from a type was struck 1887-92 in some numbers but is rather expensive in nice condition. It is called the "Jubilee" half sovereign as the bust of queen Victoria was introduced in 1887, the fiftieth anniversary of her reign. A half sovereign was worth ten shillings.
