Heritage sale 3064, lot 33098

This specimen was lot 33098 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $168. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Victoria Shilling 1885 MS64 NGC, Royal mint. A wholly original specimen, whose luster is somewhat subdued from moderate silver gray and attractive toning." This subtype was struck for circulation 1879-87 and features the bust of the young queen Victoria. A similar bust was used starting in 1839; 1879 marks the date when the scheme of using die numbers was abandoned.
