This specimen was lot 74814 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1850. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS FINE-15. Dove-gray toning with hints of emerging cobalt on the reverse. An attractive piece with honest, moderate even wear. The key date of the shilling series in an economical grade. Very Rare." This type was struck 1838-66 in large quantities with a slightly modified obverse continuing until 1887. An 1850-49 overdate is reported for the year.

Recorded mintage: 685,000, a rare date.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
