This specimen was lot 1663 in Goldberg sale 81 (Los Angeles, September 2014), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Sovereign, 1848. Victoria. Second head. Young head left. Reverse: Crowned shield. Satiny luster in abundance. PCGS graded MS-64." This bust was used on the sovereign, or one pound coin, 1838-64 with a slightly modified type (KM 736.2) extending until 1874.
Recorded mintage: 2,247,000, a better date.
Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
