Sincona sale 83, lot 2102

This specimen was lot 2102 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria, 1837-1901. 6 Pence 1848/6, London. First head. Gutes sehr schön (Good very fine)." This type was struck 1838-63 in substantial quantities but the 1848 is a scarce date. Overdates 1848/6 and 1848/7 are reported and are more available than the regular date.

Recorded mintage: 586,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, 19.3 mm diameter; this specimen 2.81 g.
