This specimen was lot 33615 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $5,040. The lot description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George II Proof 6 Pence 1746 PR66+ NGC. An exceedingly attractive Proof-only date without the famed Lima beneath bust, punctuated by virtually pristine and wonderfully toned devices that host a striking bust of George II and reverse arms. Only a handful of these Proof format 6 Pences have been certified, usually unsurpassed at Gem designations, with the current occupant ranking as the sole finest between both grading services and remains desirable as such. From the Abbeygate Collection." Large numbers of sixpences were struck from silver seized from the Spanish; these are marked "LIMA" below the bust. This sixpence, without the "LIMA", is rare. It was also struck 1750-51 and 1757-58 and those dates are available.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.01 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 582.2, S-3711, ESC-1759 (R2).
