Great Britain 1746 5 guineas
This specimen was lot 492 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 35,000 CHF (about US$41,650 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. 5 Guineas 1746, London. 19. Regierungsjahr. Mit LIMA. unter dem Brustbild, geprägt aus von Admiral Anson erbeutetem Gold. Selten. NGC AU53. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (kingdom of Great Britain, George II, 1727-60, five guineas of 1746, London mint, 19th year of reign, with LIMA under the bust, made from gold seized by Admiral Anson. Rare, Extraordinary condition.)"
Sixpences, halfcrowns and crowns exist with the "LIMA" stamped into the dies. Five guineas of this bust, but without the "LIMA", were later struck in 1748 and 1753.
