This specimen was lot 31194 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $60,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. George II gold Guinea 1745-LIMA MS65 NGC. Intermediate Laureate Head. Of incomparable beauty and preservation for this single-year, highly historical issue, with luminous aur[e]ous luster that decorates the planchet to obverse and reverse alike. While any surviving examples of the LIMA gold issues may be considered as highly collectible, the sheer visual impact and technical condition of this piece bring it to a much loftier level, with the smooth satiny character of the fields seeing an absolutely minimal disturbance by friction or handling. The strike is sound and renders admirable detail to both George's curled bust and the Hanoverian shield, with a central positioning of the dies producing even rims framing the central features. A unique opportunity to own this laudable finest-certified example of the type." The booty seized from the Spanish was nearly all silver and the shillings, half crowns and crowns struck from it are common. The gold half guineas, guineas and five guineas are rare.
