Sincona sale 75, lot 220

This specimen was lot 220 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,156 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Grossbritannien | Königreich. George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1745, London. Intermediate laureate head. NGC AU Details. Leicht gereinigt. (kingdom of Great Britain, George II, 1727-60, guinea of 1745. About uncirculated, Minor cleaning.)"

The second head was used on the guinea 1732-38; the third head was used 1739-43 and is slightly more available. This subtype, with large letters on the obverse, was used 1745-46. Guineas with "LIMA" below the bust (Fr-343) exist for 1745.

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.917 fine gold, .246 troy oz AGW, this specimen 8.34 g.
