Sincona sale 76, lot 1172

This specimen was lot 1172 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 5,250 CHF (about US$6,373 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN, koenigreich. George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1739, London. Intermediate laureate head. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. NGC UNC Details. Auf der Vorderseite minimale Bearbeitungsspuren. (kingdom of Great Britain, George II, 1727-60, guinea of 1739, Intermediate laureate head. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Minor traces of tooling on the obverse.)"

The second head was used on the guinea 1732-38; the third head (shown here) was used 1739-43 and is slightly more available. Guineas with "E.I.C." below the bust exist for 1739.
