Sincona sale 79, lot 1267

This specimen was lot 1267 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 15,000 CHF (about US$17,978 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1739, London. Second young laureate head, with E.I.C. (East India Company) below. Rare. NGC AU58+. Extraordinary condition." This bust was used on the guinea 1739-43. Guineas marked "E.I.C." (for East India Company) were struck only in 1739 and bring a substantial premium. Guineas were superseded by sovereigns during the reform of 1817.
